The beauty of Lefkada is reflected in the beaches that surround the island. The traveler can visit a number of them, by renting a small power boat at Nydri, or embarking at one of the plenty Daily Cruise ships that start from the port of Nydri. The main destinations accessible for a day trip from Nydri are the following.

Madouri

Madouri island is guarding the port of Nydri. Only one Nautical Mile (NM) from the port of Nydri, can be accessed with a small boat or even a sea kayak. It is privately owned by the Valaoritis family successors. Aristotelis Valaoritis the famous 19th-century poet, grew up here. The family house is still standing by the sea and was recently renovated.

Scorpios

The legend of the richest man in the world, Aristotle Onassis, still lives in his private paradise, Scorpios Island. Recently acquired by a Russian billionaire, who is turning it into a private luxury resort. The traveler can swim on the southwest beach, the Jackie Onassis-Kennedy favorite beach. Sailing around the island, someone can admire from a distance the buildings and the port of the island.

Meganissi Vathy

Vathy is the main port of Meganissi. The last years is becoming a cosmopolitan destination. Real estate is exploding on the island, with many villas being built each year. Archaeological finds indicate that it was an important Mycenaean center. Unfortunately, they remain unexploited, nevertheless the hiker can visit open archeological sites. At the port the visitor can taste high quality authentic Greek cuisine. Just around the corner, there are plenty of beautiful bays to dive for a swim.

Meganissi Papanikolis Cave

Located at the west side of Meganissi, the second largest cave in Greece, offers an astonishing scenery. The sailable cave is recorded as the hiding spot of the legendary submarine Papanikolis, during the II World War. At the very end, a white sand miniature beach is waiting the swimmers.

Lefkada Agiofili

The beach where God kissed earth. A miniature of Porto Katsiki, is for many one of the nicest beaches of Lefkada. Laying at the East side of Vassiliki bay, is a very popular destination.
Distance: 12 NM - The beach is also accessible by car 24km (40m) driving from Nydri.

 

Lefkada Porto Katsiki

The breathtaking beach of Port Katsiki, is located at the South West side of Lefkada, near Athani village. A popular destination for travelers and daily cruise ships. A stairway leads to the beach from the cliff on top.
Distance: 17 NM - The beach is also accessible by car 36km (55m) driving from Nydri.

 

Lefkada Egremni

Following the west coast motive, Egremni is an astonishing white beach, laying under cliffs. Coming from the Adriatic Sea, big swell waves, offer a spectacular spectacle to the visitor. After 2015 earthquake, the landscape totally changed.
Distance: 20 NM - The beach is also accessible by car 37km (1h) driving from Nydri.

 

Lefkada Agios Nikitas

A picturesque village laying at an amazing white beach. Τurquoise waters and traditional restaurants at the same spot. Agios Nikitas is the place to be accommodated, swim and taste authentic Greek cuisine.
Distance: 18 NM - The beach is also accessible by car 28 km (53 m) driving from Nydri.

A weekly trip around the “Small Ionian”, as it is known. It contains the largest concentration of islands in the west coast of Greece. Nydri to Fiskardo (18,73 NM)

Leaving the port of Nydri, you will find yourself sailing in a very busy area of the Ionian Sea. The last half of the trip, may be in swell (long) waves, approaching the west coast from the Adriatic Sea (northwest).

 

Fiskardo

The famous Fiskardo located on the northeast tip of Kefalonia. Fiskardo evolved from a small fishing village to a glamourous landmark of Ionian Sea. Full of high quality restaurants offering traditional Kefalonian and Greek cuisine. Fiskardo is a “must” destination for all yachters.

Ancient findings, revealed an urban activity from the Roman times. The Roman baths and the cemetary, are just outside the port and can be visited during the short stay. In front of the baths, the visitor may swimm in an amazing green bay, surounded with olive trees and the astonishing Kefalonian mansions lying by the sea.

Fiskardo has a significant number of pathways, connecting it with places of interest and other villages of Erissos (north Kefalonia). These were old footpaths left impassable, as new roads were built. Hard voluntary work and donations made it possible to reopen them. The visitor can walk around these ancient routes and explore places nearby Fiskardo to areas of unsurpassed natural beauty around north Kefalonia. Fiskardo to Assos (9,82 NM)

In the morning Fiskardo port is very busy. Keep away from anchor tangles and leave the port early. The trip to Assos is short, but many times the crew will deal with big swell waves, coming from northwest. On the north and west coast, there are plenty amazing bays/beaches to stop for a dive.

 

Assos

Assos is one of the most iconic villages of Greece. Colorful houses, surrounded by an amazing coastline and above the “Assos Fortress”. Myrtos beach, voted as the most beautiful beach in the world for many years in a row, is just “around the corner”. The scenery is astonishing. The visitor may swim in the port. Traditional tavernas offer local delicatessens.

Early in the morning or before sunset, is the best time to pay a visit at the castle of Assos. Be ready for a long hiking trail. The castle is protected by a wall of 2000 meters length, and covers an area of 44,000 sq. meters. For many historians, this rock used to host famus Ulysseas (Odysseas) Homeric home.

 

Assos to Kioni (16,79 NM)

Assos to Kion may be a heavy task,especially with the usuall mistral (northwest) wind. This means that the sailors should leave the port early to avoid the wind picking up. If the weather allows, stoping at the breath taking Afales beach is mandatory. To relax before entering the port, St Nikolaos bay is a great oportunity to anchor and refresh.

 

Kioni

Kioni is a picturesque traditional settlement, lying at the east side of Ithaka. Carrying the legend of Homeric Odyssey, the visitor can feel the energy at the first steps in the beautiful island. The restaurants offer a high quality of local traditional tastes.

Starting from the port, the traveler can walk all arround the south side of the Kioni bay and admire the local architecture and nature. Each corner has a small beach to refresh, with the last hosting in a strange and at the same time graphic relationship, the cemetary and a picturesque canteen. The route ends at the three windmills that dominate the entrance to the bay.

 

Kioni to Atokos (7,01 NM)

Late start for the travelers, since sailing to Atokos island is a short and easy task.

 

Atokos

An inhabited paradise. The island is private, but access is allowed since the owner has left it untouched. There are three amazing bays to choose to anchor for the night.

 

Atokos to Kastos (7,77NM)

Another easy sailing day gives the opportunity for some onboard joy. Protected from Kastos island, sailing in flat waters is an amazing experience. Stop over at beautiful south Kastos coastline, before entering early the small port to find a berth, otherwise anchor is a good option in the protected bay.

 

Kastos

Kastos is on the smallest habituated island of Ionian Sea. Flat and easy to hike, with plenty of small bays to revive. Around the small port there are several tavernas and bars. Provisions can be hard here, so be prepared. No ATM’s, a small minimarket and a gift shop, is more or less what you get. Kastos offers a deliciously simple way of life to the traveler.

 

Kastos to Vathy (15,98 NM)

Heading north from Kastos, the traveler should pay a visit to the beautiful green bays of Kalamos. The pine trees are touching the waters and give a peaceful sensation to the visitors. Vathy is the main port of Meganissi and can be very busy. In addition to the municipal marina, there is also a private one.
